Meet Our Knowledgeable & Friendly Coaches

I discovered Jiu Jitsu in 2005 in Santa Cruz, CA, while looking for a hobby I could do with my son, who was six at the time. It was one of the most challenging things I’d ever tried, and I was instantly fascinated by the mental and physical aspects of the sport. Grappling became my way to build self-confidence and a solid group of friends. I also learned that I am stronger mentally and physically than I ever imagined. Watching my son transform from a shy boy into a resilient, confident young man and accomplished competitor was amazing. We trained, competed, and ran youth grappling camps together for a decade. I am fortunate to have earned my ranks under pioneers of Brazilian and American Jiu-Jitsu in the Bay Area and my lineage is only a step or two away from the genesis of Brazilian and American Jiu Jitsu.

It’s a common misconception that you know it all once you earn a black belt. I’ve learned that grappling offers infinite growth and continuous self-discovery for those who keep their minds and hearts open.

I’ve been a math teacher, trainer, and academic program administrator for even longer than I’ve been grappling. In this time I’ve spent thousands of hours studying and applying learning theory with people of all ages. My background gives us an edge at Grindhouse because we focus on effective coaching methods and discard dogmatic tradition. My desire to be the best coach that I can drives me to continue learning. I am part of a global community of forward-thinking coaches pushing ourselves to improve through study and practice.

Throughout my time in education and Jiu Jitsu, supporting youth has always been a priority. I now run in-house benefit tournaments and fundraising seminars to provide accessible, low-cost opportunities for kids and adults to compete, with all proceeds supporting local youth organizations.

I see myself as a learning guide who is here to facilitate your growth in a welcoming, inclusive community where we all shine and look forward to every class, every day. ✨

I am 17 and started Jiu Jitsu at 11 years old, just to try it. It blossomed into a hobby that has truly become part of my life. I have not only developed Jiu Jitsu skills, but it has also helped me with my self control, stamina, academic learning abilities, and has boosted my energy throughout the day. My partners at Jiu Jitsu are like a little family and we have a lot of fun training together.

I am in high school doing concurrent enrollment and spend most of my time at CSU Pueblo. My goal is to work as an engineer.

I have found that I love teaching children and helping them grow and develop Jiu Jitsu and life skills. I especially love to see them become more mature and seeing that moment when things click for them.

I have tons of hobbies like crocheting, piano, reading, writing, gardening, embroidery, and more. I also love my 2 dogs to the ends of the earth.
